CTT1 - Strategies for teaching and supporting pupils with Autistic Spectrum Conditions

This course is suitable for teachers and support staff who work with pupils with all forms of Autistic Spectrum Conditions.

Including students/pupils with Asperger’s and high functioning Autism provides many challenges to teachers support staff and to the student themselves. This course will give an essential insight into how the person on the Autistic spectrum experiences the world around them. It will also provide practical every day strategies to support the students and pupils learning wellbeing and behaviour

The course will cover:

  • the key characteristics of the Autistic Spectrum
  • how it affects learning
  • how it affects behaviour
  • how to help promote more positive social skills
  • how to help with organisational and motivation issues
  • how to manage challenging behaviour.

CTT2 - Strategies for teaching and supporting pupils with ADHD

This course is suitable for both experienced and recently qualified teachers and support staff.

Attention deficit disorders provide huge challenges in schools and colleges. The course will give an insight into how this condition affects learning, communication, and behaviour. The course will provide strategies for effective support and for behaviour management. The course will provide materials to help in classroom situations and  will provide guidance on support in unstructured situations.

The course will help with the following concerns:

  • what is ADHD and how does it affect the pupil
  • how to support the learning of the pupil with ADHD
  • how to manage the behaviour
  • how to develop emotional well being and increase motivation.

CTT3 - How to help pupils with Dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties

Up to 10% of pupils in a classroom could have some specific learning needs. This course explores ways to develop pupils’ self esteem and increase motivation, understand the nature of Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and associated conditions and the implications on learning and behaviour.  The course will provide strategies to help with spelling, reading, writing, organisation and memory. The course is suitable for class and subject teachers as well as support staff providing individual or small group support.

The course will cover:

  • the key characteristics  of specific learning difficulties
  • how to provide structure to help with organisation
  • strategies to support learning
  • developing specific literacy skills
  • building positive self esteem.

CTT4 - Mentoring Students in need of additional support

This course is suitable for pastoral behaviour and learning mentors and all staff working with students in need of learning support.

This course will provide practical strategies for supporting students to develop self esteem, self management of their behaviour and help with motivation and organisation. It will provide information on how to overcome barriers to learning. The course will provide resources to help plan, monitor progress and develop student independence.

The course will cover:

  • the essentials of mentoring
  • overcoming barriers to learning
  • teaching social skills
  • developing self esteem
  • working towards greater independence.

CTT5 - Anger Management for pupils with ESBD (Emotional Social and Behavioural Difficulties)

This course is for professionals and parents who wish to provide support and activities to help young people with ESBD learn to manage and control their anger. The course will provide an understanding of anger and how to relate this to young people. It will also provide preventative and de-escalation strategies and activities to develop reflection and self management. The course will provide a review of suitable resources.

The course will cover:

  • the nature of anger
  • how to explain anger management to young people
  • activities to aid support de-escalation
  • activities to develop reflection and self management
  • examples of suitable and various resources.

CTT6 - An introduction to pupils with additional needs for the NQT

Newly qualified teachers often have had limited training experience with pupils with SEN and this course will offer an overview of the conditions and provide practical help to managebehaviour and develop effective methods for teaching and learning.

The course will cover:

  • understanding the Autistic spectrum including Asperger’s syndrome
  • understanding the nature of ADHD and associated conditions and the implications on learning and behaviour
  • how to develop techniques for effective teaching and learning
  • how to manage behaviour
  • integrating and including SEN pupils with the rest of the class.
