CTT16 - Introduction to special needs (a two day course)
This course will provide for professionals working in public or adult services who are new to special needs. It will cover the relevant legislation and provide an overview of learning difficulties and special needs. It will provide strategies to develop positive communication and promote well being. It will also examine how to manage challenging behaviour.
The course will cover:
Outline of the nature of special needs including:
- learning difficulties
- autistic spectrum conditions
- communication difficulties
- behaviour difficulties.
Strategies for effective communication:
- how to convey instructions
- how to present information
- how to encourage interaction.
Managing Challenging behaviour:
- the language/communication skills for effective behaviour management
